Egypt is probably the world’s oldest civilization and one of the oldest
vacation spots. Early Greeks, Romans and others went there just for
fun, and to see the wonders of some of mankind’s earliest triumphs.
A land of magnificent World Heritage Sites and a thousand tourist
clichés, it is much more than Pyramids and wonderful temples. It is
also part of the Holy Land, and tours to Christian and other religious
monuments, desert treks, great scuba diving and even golf, fishing and
birding expeditions. It is hot night spots, luxury hotels and exclusive
restaurants, romantic cruises down the Nile or a night at the opera, the
land bustling with life, sound, visual beauty and excitement.
There is not much rainfall in the country, temperatures average between 27°C
and 32°C in summer, and up to 43°C on the Red Sea coast.
In winter, the average is between 13°C and 21°C.Throughout Egypt, days are commonly warm or hot, and
nights are cool. In the coastal regions, temperatures
range between an average minimum of 14° C in winter and
an average maximum of 30° C in summer.
There is a number of health risks associated with travel
to Egypt and travellers should check that their
inoculations are up-to-date before leaving. Typhoid,
Hepatitis A and polio immunization is recommended.
Traveller's diarrhea is the most common form of illness
for travellers. Visitors should only eat thoroughly
cooked food and fruits they have peeled themselves and
also only drink sealed bottled water.
South African passport holders do require a visa when travelling to Egypt.
This is in general a easy process but needs to be done in good time.
Egypt boasts a whole range of very well priced
international branded hotels which makes it a very "good
value for money" destination. We do recommend to do
proper investigation of hotels before deciding on the
right hotel for you as some hotels are not up to
standard.
Water sports and diving
The Egyptian Red Sea offers some of the world's best scuba diving with superb
visibility, countless varieties of hard and soft coral, and incredibly diverse
underwater topography, with spectacular wall and shipwreck dive destinations.
Golf
Egypt also boasts some fantastic golf courses which
are more common in the coastal areas of Sharm El Sheikh
and El Gouna. With the unique desert climate these
courses are well worth exploring on your holiday.
Shopping
Egypt has some of
the best bazaars in the world which most tourists love
visiting as they offer good value for money souvenirs
and a enriching cultural experience. We recommend
bargaining when visiting any of the bazaars in Egypt.
