Matemo Island

Located in the Quirimbas Archipelago, Northern Mozambique

Matemo Island offers guests the quintessential tropical island experience, with beautiful white beaches and thousands of palm trees swaying in the breeze. Accommodation

Each of the 24 palm-thatched, air-conditioned chalets opens onto the beach and is just a few steps away from the sea. Each chalet is beautifully appointed, with spacious en-suite bathrooms, outside showers and deck hammocks for lazing in whilst watching passing local Mozambique dhows and the gentle undulations of the sea.

All chalets are within 10 metres of beach, with a large front verandah with Hammock, chair/loungers and beach towel drying rack. All Chalets have air conditioning, mosquito screens, mini bar, satellite television, tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, bathtub with view, hair dryer & electronic safe. Of the 24 Chalets, there are 2 units consisting of a Double and a Twin with a hallway link and two chalets have a common verandah with another chalet . 2 Chalets (Chalet #1 and #2) offer a private dining area.

Every effort has been made to ensure that the beach chalets blend into the natural Quirimba Island surroundings, with local Mokuti palm roofs offset by glamorous touches such as local white marble, ornate carved doors from Zanzibar and rich furnishings and rugs from Dubai.

Dining

The spacious guest areas are gently elevated above the sea, with the lively bar and dining area commanding sweeping views over the Indian Ocean. Fresh, seafood-oriented meals are served in a variety of locations, from the open dining area to the poolside or on the sand with the sea lapping at your feet.

Activities & Facilities

Water sports on offer include fishing, diving, snorkelling, water skiing, hobie cat, kayaks. Other activities include sunset cruises, cultural island tours (Ibo Island excursion), island dhow cruises, volleyball and beach games, various board games at the Activities Centre and Main Bar.

For the younger guests

Children are welcome at Matemo but due to space constraints the lodge can only accommodate one child under 3 years sharing with 2 adults per chalet (in a cot). We recommend families with children over 3 years of age request the inter-leading chalet.
