Benguerra Lodge
Located on Benguerra Island, Bazaruto Archipelago
Along the historical Mozambique channel lies tropical Ilha de Benguerra.
It is here that Benguerra Lodge – a unique and incomparable African island
paradise – is washed by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. The
Lodge is small and intimate and offers genuine hospitality, personalised
service and an intimate knowledge of the natural environment. It has a rich
East African/Arabic feel – evinced in both the décor, and the unique and
delectable food. Benguerra is passionate about conservation and dedicated to
the involvement of the local community in conserving this idyllic corner of
the world. This is barefoot luxury at its very best!
The rooms all merge naturally into the surrounding forest
and are only moments from the gorgeous silver-white beach of Benguerra Bay.
There are three different kinds of accommodation at Benguerra – each with
their unique characteristics and attractions.
The Cabanas are intimate, romantic and elegant and entice
guests to indulge in island style luxury. Each Cabana has a king-size bed
with mosquito net, mini-bar, private deck with Jacuzzi pool and sun
loungers, overhead fan, en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, outdoor
shower and tea & coffee making facilities.
The Casitas embrace Benguerra's unique blend of safari chic
and Arabic style. They are romantic, luxurious and decadent - and designed
to make one feel completely cherished. Each Casita has a queen size bed with
mosquito net (4 rooms have twin beds which can be converted into double
beds). There is also a comfortable lounge area to relax in, a mini-bar,
plantation shutter windows and doors, 100sqm of private timber deck with
plunge pool and sun loungers, an outdoor dining gazebo for starlit dinners,
overhead fan, en-suite bathroom with copper bath and shower, outdoor shower
and tea & coffee making facilities. The Casitas have direct access to the
beach from their deck.
The Villa has 2 double bedrooms (both can be converted into
twin rooms if required), with overhead fans and mosquito nets over the beds.
Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with beautiful copper baths and
outdoor showers. There is a private swimming pool, deck and sun loungers.
Guests staying in the Villa will have their own personal chef and there is a
private lounge/dining area with bar and tea & coffee making facilities. For
a small family group, consisting of a maximum of 6 people, there is the
option to offer a combination of the Private Villa and Casita 10,
conveniently situated about 25m away.
Each room has a range of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner,
shower gel, soap and body lotion). Sunscreen and insect repellent is also
provided but its recommended you bring your favourite brand with you.
Meals at Benguerra are comprised largely of freshly caught
seafood – with delicacies such as prawns, crab and crayfish. Traditional
Mozambican cuisine, Portuguese flavours and a variety of delicious dishes
make up the daily menus. Breakfast and lunch are buffet affairs, while
dinner is a set menu. Guests with special dietary requirements can be
individually catered for. The island and the lodge provide a variety
of settings for lunches and dinners which contribute to the magic and
romance of the island experience.
There’s much to discover on and around the Island. On foot
or in open land rovers, the choice of how you explore Benguerra Island is
entirely up to you. The lodge takes great pride in their personal service –
and whether you are snorkeling on the Archipelago’s magnificent reefs, or
casting a fly from a boat – you will have an experienced guide with you.
Activities on offer include diving and snorkelling, fishing, dhow cruises,
castaway picnics, Landrover trips, bird watching, island walks, village
visits, sea kayaking, yacht day trips, catamaran day trips and horse riding.
Some activities are included in all-inclusive accommodation rate while
others will be at an additional cost.
Children at Benguerra Lodge
Unfortunately the lodge doesn't accommodate any children
under the age of 8 years. Children 8 and older can be accommodated in the
Private Villa where they will have their own room.
