As recent as 50 years ago,
Knysna's power was derived from a wood fired turbine, and
ironically this power station was and remains a part of arguably
the finest location along the garden route. Thesen Island as it
is called is home to a collection of up-market homes linked to
each other and the Knysna lagoon through a series of water ways.
Several years ago an ambitious project to transform the power
station into a boutique hotel began, the result of which is
breathtaking in its 'industrial' mystique. Given the heritage
status of the power station, most of the primary components were
left in position and now form an integral part of the theme of
the hotel.
The 17 bedrooms are each uniquely decorated and feature
air-conditioning, extra-length king size beds, 32" flat screen
TV with DVD player (full DVD library available), telephone,
Internet facilities, desk, full bathroom with separate bath and
shower,double vanities and heated towel rails, fully-stocked
mini bar and full tea/coffee station.
The 6 Suites have all the standard room features as well as a
sleeper couch (in 4 of the suites only), bar with stools and
microwave.
The Honeymoon Suite has a lounge suite, bar, ice machine and the
bathroom features a double shower and free standing bath plus
bidet.
The
Island Cafe - TThis 90 seat restaurant creates a totally unique
environment for all meals. Tables overlook the canal, pool deck
or are nestled between the original refurbished turbines. Warm
open fireplaces and majestic sliding glass doors allow us to
maximize and match the ambience and weather conditions. The
Island café has won the prestigious 2010/11 Diners Club Platinum
Award for its wine list
Tapas Bar and Deck - Enjoy a
sundowner or delectable bite from our menu at the Tapas bar
which is built around the hotels fifth turbine or simply relax
on the deck for casual drinks & tapas on those balmy evenings
overlooking the canals & jetties and enjoy the legendary Knysna
lagoon sunsets
To compliment the many facilities and activities of The
Turbine, its picturesque Amani Spa is one of tranquility and
relaxation, offering a wide variety of body, facial and beauty
treatments, and a unique pedicure experience in our exclusive
Spa Massage Pedi Chair. Enjoy the Spa's Rasul, a traditional
Arabic ritual, a cleansing treatment that takes place in an
exotically mosaic tiled steam chamber, which unites the four
fundamental elements of earth, air, fire and water into a
special experience for both body and soul, leaving you feeling
cleansed, renewed, relaxed, and your skin silky soft.
